Paurusha is a well-known monthly magazine in the Odia language devoted to the promotion of Odia literature, culture, and history. The magazine features a wide range of subjects, including the history of Odisha, scientific interpretations of Hindu epics, Odia short stories, social issues, and other forms of literary writing. Even today, the magazine continues to enjoy wide popularity among readers for the diversity of its subjects and the depth and quality of its literary content. It is often regarded as the Odia counterpart of the popular English magazine Reader’s Digest.
The magazine is currently published by Eastern Media Ltd., Odisha’s largest media conglomerate. It is printed under the banner of Aama Odisha. With evolving times, it has also been made available on digital platforms for the convenience of readers across the globe.

Paurusha Samman
As Paurusha approaches the celebration of its 60th year of publication, the Odia literary monthly magazine has instituted the “Paurusha Samman” award to honour and recognise outstanding literary works produced in various Indian languages as well as in English.
Eligibility Criteria
The award will honour exceptional books published within the preceding three years. Nominations may be submitted by authors, publishers, or institutions and must include copies of the book along with a brief note explaining its significance. Each nomination should be supported by an endorsement from a recognised literary organisation, university, or cultural institution.
Selection Procedure
All entries will first be assessed by an eight-member Screening Committee. The committee will review the submissions and create a shortlist of at least ten books, considering factors such as literary quality, originality, and their cultural or social significance. The shortlisted titles will then be evaluated by a final jury of seven distinguished figures from the literary and academic communities, who will determine the winner through consensus or a majority decision
